Nonotuck is a parent-cooperative, which means all families share ownership of the School. The cooperative provides every family with the opportunity to participate in their child’s education and shape the learning environment.
As co-op members, parents must also fulfill a work commitment every month as a way of being more closely involved with the School and supporting staff in their day-to-day activities. Some parents shop for snacks, while others may serve on a board or committee. Some arrange for jobs in the classroom, where they bring special skills and perspectives to the educational process. By sharing time, energy, and ideas, parents help Nonotuck become the best school it can be.
Nonotuck families connect and build community at events throughout the year. From fundraisers to get-togethers, these events allow parents to share thoughts, ideas, and visions for the School. Fundraisers are planned by the fundraising and social events committees which are chaired by Board members. Over the years certain fundraisers have proved to be popular and fruitful and have become a tradition, but new ideas are explored with each new group of families. In the past we’ve had a tag sale in the fall and the auction and raffle in the spring. We’ve held family dance parties and hosted parent night-outs at local venues. All our fundraisers are opportunities for all Nonotuck parents to work together to support the school. Social events happen throughout the course of the year and include pizza parties, potlucks, parent discussions, movie nights, and weekend family experiences (hiking, going to a park, etc.) organized by parents.
